Let the bells ring and banners fly, the Kindle version of my book has arrived
This posts offers you an excerpt and $3 off
Hello again. It’s been about two weeks since my last post. (You Roman Catholics can tell this is leading to a confession.) I couldn’t get access to my Substack, and it took about that long to figure it out. Of course, it was my own damn fault. I’ll save the gory details for later.
With this post, I’m announcing that the Kindle version of my book Getting Unstuck: Seven Transformatonal Practices for Golf Nerds is finally available!
And I’m offering it to you—my dear, beloved subscribers—at a discount.
For the next week, the sale price is $6.99, down from the regular price of $9.99 until Sunday, July 19.
In Canada, it’s available on Amazon.ca and in the United States on Amazon.com. In other areas, please search your local Amazon.
You’ll find an excerpt below this recent review:
“Golf is my therapy. When I purchased Tim’s book, I had Roy Kent-type ‘ah ha’ moments like he experienced reading a Wrinkle in Time given to him by Ted Lasso.
“Tim has a way of breaking down complexity, simplifying, and getting to the most basic core. I still pick up the book to reread parts. The stories are so relatable; I know I’m not alone. If you are ready to take things to another level, you should read Getting Unstuck.”
Randy Jackiw
The edited book excerpt below addresses the question that almost everyone asks themselves:
“Why can’t I improve?”
“I was looking for love in all the wrong places.” Johnny Lee
As a fellow golf nerd, I know that you don’t just want to get better at golf—you crave it.
Otherwise, you wouldn’t invest so much of your time, money, and sense of yourself in your zeal to become more “consistent,” lower your index, and fix your nemesis shots. And—if you’re honest—try to become known as a “good golfer.”
In your desire to improve, you’ve been questing ever so nobly for the code that will unlock the vault of the golf gods in the belief that their sacred secrets will elevate you to the hallowed “next level” that you so justly deserve.
The golf culture feeds on your craving by promising that if you improve, you will reach the zenith of our culture: you will be happy. Thus, you flit from tip to tip, resurrect old swing thoughts, and dabble with various “methods” and devices—only to find yourself disappointed again and again in a cycle of hope and despair.
Your inability to “get better” isn’t because:
· You can’t convince your various body parts to properly work together.
· You can’t keep your head down or transfer your weight.
· You’re not “athletic.”
· You haven’t found the right information.
· You started late.
· You have too many bad habits.
· Your dad yelled at you.
· You are a choking dog.
You’re stuck because of the way you habitually think, feel, and behave.
You are stuck because of patterns of behaviour that prevent you from staying committed to specific actions or, say, a mission that would allow you to develop solid skills.
You are stuck because of the thoughts and feelings that you give into, your reactions, and the decisions you make about the things that you believe you must do. Or more, accurately, you feel compelled to do. (Yes, we’re in the territory of addiction.)
You are stuck because you engage in behaviours that relieve your anxiety and cravings and quell your undesirable feelings. At least temporarily.
But eventually, at a certain point, everyone discovers that these strategies stop working. We realize we’re stuck in self-sabotaging patterns.
We all instinctively want to avoid pain, so rather than deal with our patterns, we distract or numb ourselves, seek instant solutions, rationalize “this is just who I am,” and look outside of ourselves for a charismatic expert to fix our problems.
Thus, we remain stuck in Stuckville.
But feeling stuck isn’t a problem. That feeling will lead you to the solution—taking responsibility for your life by becoming aware of what you think, feel and how you behave.
Stop looking for love in all the wrong places.
Look inward.
